Wayne Sherlock has withdrawn from the Cork senior hurling panel - the versatile defender is understood to be angered at his lack of game-time in recent weeks.
Sherlock's last outing for Cork was against Down in the National Hurling League a fortnight ago, but he was omitted for last week's Division 1A win over Wexford and he has failed to make the starting fifteen for tomorrow's clash with Clare.
There are now question marks over the morale in the Cork squad as the 28-year-old Sherlock, who hails from the Blackrock club, is the third player to leave Gerald McCarthy's Cork squad in the space of a week.
Both Mickey O'Connell and Killian Cronin withdrew their services last week, opting out for "personal reasons".
The future of another defender Pat Mulcahy, who captained Cork last season, remains uncertain as the Newtownshandrum clubman has yet to publicly voice his intentions for the championship campaign.
Cork senior selector Martin Bowen has stated that, as far as the Cork management are aware, the 30-year-old Mulcahy "has not retired".
Sherlock and Mulcahy had been key members of Cork's All-Ireland winning sides in recent seasons, winning All-Star awards in 2004 and 2005 respectively.
