O'Brien criticises 'frenzied' Anglo news reporting
The businessman Denis O'Brien has said Ireland's credit rating is being damaged by
what he described as "cheap-shot" commentators writing speculative articles about Ireland.
Speaking at a conference entitled 'Confidence in the Media', Mr O'Brien described the media coverage of Anglo Irish Bank, as a "frenzy" which is "personality-driven" regarding Sean Fitzpatrick.
He said good reporting must contribute to the economic recovery, and he hit out at reporters who he accused of continuing to overlook the positive developments in the Irish economy.
"Irresponsible, speculative articles, while they make great headlines, are impacting our international credit rating around the world," he said.
