Carlo Ancelotti has warned his Chelsea side they must not become complacent despite restoring their five-point lead at the top of the Barclays Premier League with a resounding 3-0 win at Arsenal.
A Didier Drogba brace and an own goal from Thomas Vermaelen secured a seventh successive win for the Blues and dealt a severe blow to Arsenal’s title hopes.
Chelsea’s next league match comes against big-spending Manchester City at Eastlands and Ancelotti is adamant his players must maintain their focus if they are to stay on top.
“It is important for me that Chelsea continue to play as we did (against Arsenal) with determination and concentration,” the 50-year-old said.
“We know very well our possibilities. We can win every game but also if we don’t have determination and concentration, we can lose every game.
“We have to maintain a good behaviour in our work. We started the season believing we could win it.
“When I signed a contract with Chelsea, I believed we could win something.”
The Chelsea manager is meanwhile ready to do his homework on Watford after the holders were drawn against the Hornets in the third round of the FA Cup.
The Blues won the cup last season, under the guidance of interim coach Guus Hiddink, and his successor Ancelotti will begin his attempt to match that feat with a home clash against the Hornets.
“I do not know Watford very well at the moment but I will have the opportunity to learn about them,” he said after yesterday’s 3-0 Barclays Premier League win at Arsenal.
Ancelotti has said in the past that he is a big fan of English music, and he is hoping the match at Stamford Bridge early next year will allow him to meet former Watford chairman Elton John.
He added: “The owner of Watford many years ago was Elton John. Elton John is my favourite singer. The match will be an opportunity to meet Elton John.”
