Rubens Barrichello has vowed to shatter world champion Michael Schumacher's bid for the Formula One record books.
Barrichello is confident he can triumph in his home race on Sunday and end his Ferrari team-mate's run of six successive wins.
Schumacher would be just two wins away from equalling Alberto Ascari's all-time record if he was victorious on the Interlagos track.
But Barrichello believes his performances so far this year, during which he has pushed Schumacher close, prove he can get the better of the triple champion.
"I am now sure that I can beat Michael and this weekend is going to be very special for me," said the Sao Paulo-born racer bidding to become the first Brazilian winner since Ayrton Senna in 1993.
"I don't remember a time when I have looked forward to a race so much. And I know what it would mean to the fans especially to see a home winner."
Barrichello has also hit back at critics who claim his long-term future at Ferrari is in doubt and intends to prove them wrong by challenging Schumacher for the drivers' crown.
"I know my worth and I know what I can do for Ferrari - I can win," added Barrichello, whose two podium finishes leave him equal second in the standings with McLaren's David Coulthard, but 10 points behind his team-mate.
"I have never considered myself as a number two in the team - I am an equal.
"Last year I had to put up with a lot of critics who said I had made a big mistake in joining Ferrari or even that I didn't deserve to be in the team.
"I put myself under too much pressure last season, but now I am more confident than ever. I know I am getting better and better.
"I am here because I know my worth and I just know this season is going to be the best of my career. I intend to open a few people's eyes."
Barrichello has attempted to play down his criticisms of Schumacher for overtaking him at the last race in Malaysia when they were both recovering after sliding off the wet track.
"I was a bit upset after Malaysia but you have to set that against my career as a whole," added the 28-year-old who eventually finished second in that race.
