Newcastle United have discovered that Kieron Dyer does not have a serious injury.
The 22-year-old has been given the all-clear to resume training after undergoing stringent medical tests on what was believed to be a shin splints problem.
And he could be back in harness for the Premiership trip to Chelsea on January 31.
"Kieron Dyer has undergone further tests on his shin injury and all tests have shown no serious problem at the present time," a club spokesman said.
"He has a small area of inflammation on the surface of his shinbone and has made good progress.
"He is expected to be fit to play next week. However, the situation is to be monitored closely."
That news will come as music to Robson's ears as he attempts to guide his side into a European qualification spot in spite of an injury crisis which has left them battling to keep their heads above water for months.
Alan Shearer and Carl Cort are both targeting the visit of Manchester City to St James' Park on February 24 for their returns from knee and hamstring surgery respectively.
But, in the meantime, Dyer should once again be able to fulfil the role of emergency striker in which he starred before being forced to serve a two-match ban.
And while his return will be welcomed by his club manager, new England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson will be equally happy with the youngster among those widely tipped to get a chance under the new regime at international level.
