Racing in excess of a mile for the first time, the Melbourne Cup possible was winning at the highest level for the seventh time in 15 starts.

Ross McDonald's four-year-old gathered in Pompeii Ruler and Maldivian inside the closing stages of the nine furlong event to win going away by three-quarters of a length.

"With this horse, you never have any doubt," McDonald told www.racenet.com.au.

"He was always going to get Maldivian, he just keeps improving and there's more to come."
