England pair line up for United return

England duo Paul Scholes and Gary Neville are in line for a return for Manchester United when they face Charlton at The Valley tomorrow.

England duo Paul Scholes and Gary Neville are in line for a return for Manchester United when they face Charlton at The Valley tomorrow.

Scholes could make a surprise comeback just four weeks after having knee surgery and is standing by to replace Ruud van Nistelrooy if the Dutchman fails to recover from the hamstring problem sustained in the midweek Champions League win over Bayer Leverkusen.

With a European game against Olympiakos on Tuesday, manager Alex Ferguson may not risk his leading scorer unless the problem has completely cleared.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is standing by to take over but Scholes will also be in contention for a striking role if he starts his first game since September 3.

Defender John O’Shea has recovered from a clash of heads during Tuesday’s game in Germany and he and Gary Neville are in contention for the right-back berth.
