Kerley appointed Waterford boss

Waterford United have appointed former Limerick manager Mike Kerley as boss for the forthcoming season.

Waterford United have appointed former Limerick manager Mike Kerley as boss for the forthcoming season.

Kerley replaces the departed Brendan Rea, to whom the club decided not to offer a new contract at the end of the season.

Former Cork City and Kilkenny City defender Kerley managed Limerick between 2003 and 2005, when the club struggled financially.

However, on the pitch, despite only having the bare minimum 11 players on the squad at times, he guided them to the 2003 play-offs, where they lost to Derry City.

Kerley said: “We know how important football is in Waterford and we will be giving 100% to the job of building the Blues into a team that can challenge for honours. We look forward to meeting the players and bringing our vision for the future to them and to the fans.”
