Cold Feet star James Nesbitt is recording a football anthem for Euro 2004.
The Ulster-born actor is part of the band Twisted X, which is aiming for a number one with Born In England, a rival to the official England song.
The Libertines and Danny Goffey from Supergrass are also lending their vocals.
Born In England was chosen via a competition on Christian O’Connell’s Xfm radio breakfast show.
The Oasis-style song was written by a trio of brothers called The Wheatleys.
Pop Idol judge Neil Fox, who helped choose the winner, said: “If the Gallaghers were to write a footie anthem for Euro 2004, this would be it. Born In England is a blinding tune.
“We need an anthem that the fans can sing on the terraces and that also sounds great pumping out of the nation’s radios. This is that tune.”
More than 20,000 listeners voted in the competition, whittling the contenders down to a final five, which were then put before the judging panel.
Born In England will be released on June 7, one week before England’s first match.
The Football Association announces its official song this Friday and the two are expected to go head to head in a UK chart battle.
