Five police recruits were killed today when a suicide car bomb slammed into the bus they were travelling in, police said.

Thirteen people were wounded.

The police bus had been travelling to a training centre in northern Baqouba, 35 miles (60km) north-east of Baghdad, police said.

A car bomb exploded in Baghdad today, near an American convoy, police Capt Qassim Hussein said.

Police had no information on casualties. US officials do not usually comment on attacks on American convoys.

Police in western Baghdad found the body of a policeman who had been shot in the head and chest, Capt Hussein said.
