Heavy workloads keep us apart, says Les Dennis

Celebrity Big Brother star Les Dennis today said a heavy workload had prevented him seeing his actress wife Amanda Holden since he left the fly-on-the-wall house last week.

Celebrity Big Brother star Les Dennis today said a heavy workload had prevented him seeing his actress wife Amanda Holden since he left the fly-on-the-wall house last week.

The comedian and TV presenter, who spent 10 days being watched by the cameras along with five other stars, has yet to be reunited with Holden, despite being freed during the final on Friday night.

But Dennis vowed that the pair would see each other again “this week” when their work schedules would allow.

“I’m doing Casualty at the moment, I’m about to go and film that. That is why I haven’t seen Amanda because I’m working,” he told GMTV.

Asked whether the couple could have seen each other over the weekend, Dennis said his wife had been working on the new series of Cutting It in Manchester the whole time.

The comedian said he had not been able to go up north to see her because he had only just got his Casualty script and had numerous meetings lined up in London.

“It’s just working out how you do your job. And we’ll see each other this week. We will see each other this week,” he said.

The couple have hit the headlines in the past, most notably after Holden’s high-profile affair with Men Behaving Badly star Neil Morrissey.

Dennis laughed off newspaper reports today describing him as “Lusty Les”, saying: “You’ve got to look at what happened. Six people got on well.

“There was nothing kicking off so they had to pick on me.”

Asked about his decision to enter the Big Brother House, Dennis said: “I didn’t go in necessarily for my career. I went in for a lot of reasons.

“I think because you’re put in a box in this country sometimes and I wanted to kind of smash that box and I think I probably have.”

Dennis said the show was “an amazing experience” and he was glad he took part.

“We raised a lot of money for charity. I think we’ve raised our profiles from that point,” he said.

“I’ve got lots of people, lots of meetings today for things that people are interested in, and that’s nice.

“I see it for what it was and I’m going to be positive about it.”

Asked about his behaviour while in the house, and his dislike of nominating celebrity housemates for eviction, he said: “I’m a sensitive guy and I don’t like nominating people because I didn’t have anything to say against them.

“I didn’t have anything to say that I didn’t like them, and I had to nominate on my own and I knew that they would know for the next two days and I found that very difficult.

“I should have probably lightened up on it but I didn’t.”

Dennis was runner-up on the Channel 4 show, which was won by former Take That singer Mark Owen.

Actor and DJ Goldie was first to be booted out of the house after four days, followed by ex-morning TV presenter Anne Diamond and comic Sue Perkins.

Glamour model Melinda Messenger was first to be voted out of the house during the final show on Friday, receiving just 9% of the public vote compared with 13.6% for Dennis and a massive 77.4% for Owen.
