Nation rejoices as Leaving Cert (weather) arrives

The nation celebrated this morning as thousands of young people faced the most stressful time of their lives.

That's two weeks of horrific, intense exams that leave them burned out and panicked. We couldn't be happier, of course, since that means Leaving Cert weather has arrived.

Yes, Leaving Cert weather - the belief that, to make the exam season even worse, it will become sunny and warm for the duration.

Everyone on social media is delighted it has, somehow, actually happened, with not a cloud in the sky in many parts.

Today is set to be dry with sunny spells, and temperatures of up to 16 degrees, after a shocking bank holiday Monday that saw marathons rained upon mercilessly.

The Leaving Cert weather phenomenon has become so widely believed that bookmaker Paddy Power is taking bets on it.

They have it at 5/2 that we'll have temperatures between 25 - 27.4C. The odds of it staying cold, under 20C, are a fairly long 8/1 - in fact, you've got better odds of it going over 30C, at 7/2.

We can hope.

It's even more impressive seeing as how this whole week was supposed to be wet and cold, before turning around at the weekend to become (hopefully) more consistently sunny.

Perhaps Apollo decided to shift entire weather systems solely so students on the way to their first exam could despair.

After all, when Sam Cristoforetti snapped a photo of Ireland early this morning, we were covered in cloud - in fact, we were exactly covered in Ireland-shaped clouds.

So, don't expect the good weather to last this week - it's just making a show for the day that's in it. But hopefully it will pick up next week, as bookies in the UK have predicted the hottest June on record there.

Good luck out there, exam students. Thanks for the sunshine.
