The Association of Fresh Milk Producers is claiming strong support for a proposal to convert agri-giant Glanbia into a farmer-owned co-op.
At three information meetings held by FMP in Dungarvan, Carlow and Navan, packed attendances are being claimed, with apparently lively debate on the proposal.
FMP Chairman Eamonn Bray said of the meetings and proposal this evening: "It is very heartening to see such strong support from Glanbia Co-op members for the proposal, even from members who may be concerned about the fundability of the buyout.
"Farmers are actively looking at the future direction of the industry with many convinced that the co-op structure is the only entity that can return value added to them from the market place going forward."
The meetings heard the financial and strategic details of FMP's proposal to convert Glanbia plc into a farmer owned co-op.
