Ireland Club international Ciaran O’Boyle grabbed a hat trick of tries as Garryowen downed their great rivals Shannon at Thomond Park today.

Having come into today’s game having won 12 of their last 13 league fixtures on the road, Garryowen’s brilliant away form was to the fore again.

Winger O’Boyle touched down after 5, 8 and 34 minutes – twice winning the race to kicks ahead – to hand the light Blues a 19-8 interval lead.

Andrew Thompson scored an opportunist try and a penalty for Shannon, and added a 71st-minute penalty but the visitors held on to move second in the table.

Scorers:

Shannon: Try: Andrew Thompson; Pens: Thompson 2

Garryowen: Tries: Ciaran O’Boyle 3; Cons: Conor Kilroy 2
