Easter Ogil landed his first race for almost two years when making the most of a frenetic pace in the opening ITV Interactive Betting and Gaming Handicap at Lingfield today.
An eye-catching third at the Surrey course six days ago, the 6-1 winner took the lead inside the final furlong and a half and kept on stronger than Margery Daw to score by three-quarters of a length under Jamie Spencer.
Stablemate Meelup had ensured a strong pace throughout, along with Augustine and the grey Senor Eduardo, with the latter filling the third spot having just been nailed on the line at the same venue yesterday.
“At last – he’s won again on home soil,” said winning trainer Jane Southcombe. “He won the Jersey Guineas and has been placed a lot – he was also sixth in the Magnolia.
“He is a very talented horse but needs a strong pace and given the way races are normally run here he often struggles.”
