Stoke are assessing the fitness of captain Abdoulaye Faye after the defender limped out of a pre-season friendly last night.

The Senegal international suffered an apparent hamstring injury in the early stages of the Potters’ 2-1 victory at Bristol Rovers.

It is the latest concern for manager Tony Pulis ahead of the Barclays Premier League opener against Wolves on August 14.

Glenn Whelan is facing a race against time to prove his fitness for the trip to Molineux while Rory Delap and Matthew Etherington also missed last night’s match.
