Robbie makes live return

Robbie Williams made his live return in Leeds last night.

The 'Candy' singer played an intimate show at the city's Academy venue to open his first solo tour since 2006.

Robbie debuted his new single, 'Candy', and told the 2,300 strong crowd he's hoping it will get lots of airplay on radio.

Speaking of the single he also told the Daily Record newspaper: "I'm in the business of hits now. Before, I meandered with no direction, trying to be experimental and interesting and I didn't manage that bit.

"Now, I want hits and euphoria in stadiums and I want people to sing the words back to me.

"I think this might be the single to do it."

Robbie only played one other track from his forthcoming 'Take The Crown' album, 'Losers', a huge ballad.

The rest of his set was packed with previous hits including 'Angels', 'She's The One', 'Let Me Entertain You' and 'Rock DJ'.

He even joked about one of his older and more ridiculed tracks, telling the crowd: "Don't worry, I'm not doing 'Rudebox'."

Robbie was also in typical cheeky form on stage, doing press-ups, as well as dancing the robot and cracking lots of jokes.

Meanwhile the singer continues his tour - of small venues he played on his first ever solo tour in 1997 - tonight at Glasgow Barrowlands.
