Richard Hughes could be out of action for three weeks after puncturing a lung in a fall at Leicester on Saturday.
The jockey was taken to Leicester Royal Infirmary for X-rays after being unseated from Tidy yards from the finish of the Tiger Best Bitter Handicap after his saddle slipped.
Hughes was detained in hospital overnight and misses the ride on American Post in this afternoon’s Prix de Fontainebleu but hopes to back in time to partner the Criquette Head-Maarek-trained colt in the French 2000 Guineas (Gainsborough Poule d’Essai des Poulins) on May 16.
His wife Lizzie Hughes said: “He’s very sore today and they’ll probably let him out tomorrow.
“His saddled slipped and he’s punctured a lung.
“He misses the ride on American Post today but he’s aiming to get back for the ride on him in the French Guineas – and he thinks he will.
“The doctors are keeping him in because he’s a bit sore and he’s very tired.”
