Hundreds of Indonesian villagers have fled their homes after a huge explosion at a gas and oil exploration well in the Cepu district on the main island of Java.
A series of small explosions ignited gas which had leaked from the well and sent flames 100 feet into the air, filling the sky with smoke.
As many as 1,100 people were evacuated from the area and firefighters are still struggling to put out the blaze. The cause of the blast is unknown.
The oil well is owned by the state-run Pertamina firm, which said three people were treated for minor injuries after the explosion.
Several villagers also complained of respiratory problems. The last major explosion at an Indonesian oil rig occurred in West Java in 1984. That blaze took a month to extinguish.
