Northern Ireland skipper Steve Lomas was sent off for the first time in his international career as manager Sammy McIlroy endured the most humiliating night of his reign.

Lomas was dismissed in the 48th minute in the Rhinepark Stadium for supposedly elbowing Liechtenstein striker Thomas Beck.

Northern Ireland were hugely disappointing against Liechtenstein, who are 60 places lower then them in the world rankings, and Damien Johnson had to clear a Thomas Nigg header off the line.
