West Ham have completed the signing of Wimbledon striker David Connolly for a fee of £285,000 (€408,000).

The 36-times capped Republic of Ireland star has signed a three-year deal at Upton Park to become manager Glenn Roeder’s first summer signing.

Connolly notched 42 goals in 63 league starts at Wimbledon over two seasons, having joined them on a free transfer from Dutch side Feyenoord.

Roeder is also close to agreeing a contract with veteran midfielder Rob Lee and is hoping to land some Premiership players on loan as he bids to strengthen his depleted squad ahead of the Hammers’ bid to bounce back to the top flight.
