Several people are feared dead after five sections of an express train carrying 500 passengers in Bangladesh derailed and plunged off a bridge.

Two people have been confirmed dead and nine others have serious injuries.

The number of deaths and people injured is likely to rise as rescuers lift the wrecked cars from the ditch.

The Udayan Express, with 13 carriages, was on its way to Chittagong from Sylhet when the accident happened.

The cause of the accident is not immediately clear, but sabotage has not been ruled out, railway spokesman Shafiqul Alam Khan said.

The engine and four carriages came off the bridge, Khan added.

Nine seriously injured people, including the train's driver, were taken to a hospital in nearby Feni.
