More than 220 jobs are being created over the next three years in Co Cork as one of the region’s major employers expands its outsourcing sector, Enterprise Minister Micheál Martin said.

SWS Group, which operates in agriculture, business services, outsourcing, property and natural resources, is investing in skills development and research and development as part of the expansion of its Business Process Outsource Division in Clonakilty.

It will lead to significant growth in export sales and the creation of 226 new jobs in the next three years, the minister said.

SWS Group employs 300 full-time and 230 part-time staff in West Cork and the latest recruitment is being supported by Enterprise Ireland.

Mr Martin hailed the company’s growth as great news for Clonakilty and West Cork.

“The new jobs announced today will grow employment at the Business Process Outsourcing Division from 145 currently to 371 over three years.

“The support of Enterprise Ireland will greatly assist SWS in its determination to be international leaders in business process outsourcing.

“The Enterprise Ireland supported investment is in people skills development and technology research resulting in a very strong competitive advantage,” he said.

“Research and development, productivity improvements, building strong management teams and driving export growth are key components of Enterprise Ireland’s Strategy 2005-2007: Transforming Irish Industry.

“SWS is a fine example of these components converging to deliver export growth and value-added employment from a regional location,” he added.

Jim Costello, business development manager of SWS Group’s, Business Process Outsourcing division said: “This represents a major push for us into export markets where we believe we can build on a very strong track record with our existing customers.

“We have already transformed our business from agri-services to higher value-added services including our expanding business process outsourcing activity, wind energy and waste management.

“This successful transformation gives us great confidence in our business strategy for future export development.”

Today’s jobs announcement was also welcomed by Enterprise Ireland’s chief executive officer Frank Ryan.
