Mayor bans public drinking near Kidman set

Residents of a Romanian village have been banned from drinking in public to avoid upsetting Nicole Kidman.

Residents of a Romanian village have been banned from drinking in public to avoid upsetting Nicole Kidman.

The star has been shooting her new film Cold Mountain around the village of Potigrafu.

Mayor Gheorghe Voicu has imposed fines of €30 for people being found drunk in public.

The mayor wants to stop drinkers gathering at a World War Two monument in the centre of the village which has been a favourite drinking spot for many locals.

According to the Romanian paper National the mayor said: "I don't want to see any more drunks, glasses or bottles next to this monument.

"It is not only a sacrilege for our war heroes, but what will Nicole Kidman think of us in case she sees people drinking alcohol next to a monument like this?"
