Former Olympic gold medallist Michael Carruth says the other seven members of the Irish boxing team will focus on their own goals in the aftermath of Michael O'Reilly's positive drugs test.
O'Reilly is provisionally suspended from the games after testing positive for a banned substance.
His only hope of competing at the Olympics is if his B sample comes back clear after his A sample tested positive.
Carruth says the fighters will now focus on themselves.
News of the positive test has cast a pall over Ireland's final preparation but once the Games begin, Carruth expects both the participants and the public to get caught up in the excitement.
"When the games start, the buzz will kick in for people," he told Pat Kenny on Newstalk. "It's like a hundred world cups rolled into one. It's the best sporting event.
