Ian Garbutt produced one of the shots of the European Tour season today at the St Omer Open.
The Englishman chalked up an albatross at the par-five 14th in his third round.
Garbutt posted a two by holing a three wood from 248 yards.
It was only the second albatross recorded this season on the tour.
Thongchai Jaidee also achieved that feat during the Daily Telegraph Damovo British Masters at the 17th hole of the Marriott Forest of Arden course.
Garbutt, however, had to settle for a round of 72, leaving him six over par for the tournament.
He said: “I absolutely nailed my drive, it was over 300 yards, and it had to be, as the hole was playing long.
“Then I obviously nailed my three wood but I thought it was going over the green because there were people up there but nobody clapped.
“When I got there, they told me it was in the hole.”
Overnight leader Carl Suneson made a steady start and maintained a one-shot lead on five under through five holes.
He bogeyed the fourth but made amends at the next.
Kyron Sullivan of Wales and Ireland’s Stephen Browne stayed on Suneson’s shoulder during the opening holes.
However, Scotland’s Murray Urquhart had a nightmare start.
He chalked up double bogeys at the second and third to go back to level par.
Alessandro Tadini of Italy was making a charge and went out in 31 after picking up five shots in the first nine.
That took him to three under – two shots behind Suneson.
Didier de Vooght of Belgium also went out in 31 to finish with a 66, which took him to level par for the tournament.
