Board appointed to vet successor to Galway's O'Mahony

The Galway county board has appointed a committee to come up with a successor to football boss John O'Mahony.

The Galway county board has appointed a committee to come up with a successor to football boss John O'Mahony.

Former Sligo boss and Mayo selector Peter Forde is the overwhelming favourite for the job, but the committee has been set up to conduct interviews with candidates.

O'Mahony stepped down this year after a poor showing by Galway, who lost their provincial crown to Mayo and went out in the qualifiers to Tyrone.

However, O'Mahony will take charge of the Connacht football team for next month's interprovincial series, and hurling boss Conor Hayes will manage the hurling team.
