Kylie to record Jazz album

Australian star Kylie Minogue is ditching pop to record a jazz standards album.

The Love at First Sight singer will join fellow pop stars Robbie Williams, Rod Stewart and more recently Westlife, who have covered classic tracks by Frank Sinatra and Nat King Cole.

Minogue enthuses: "I've done different jazz and cabaret recordings, which I know sounds terrible, but I enjoyed jazz.

"It is the most unlikely thing for me to do, but when I did it at a party for the fashion label Chloe in Paris, it was received really well. And because it's so unlikely, it worked."

Minogue admits she has recorded some tracks already, but is nervous about her pop-loving fans' response to such a different music genre.

She explains: "They're just demos. A lot of research has to go into recording any of those standards. I felt challenged and really inspired.

"I'm sure some jazz purists would be up in arms, but I've had these challenges and obstacles all along."
