Portugal midfielder Luis Figo has retired from international football.
The Real Madrid star, 31, announced his decision in a written statement, and admitted: “At the moment I feel a need to stop playing.”
Figo becomes the second member of the team which won the 1991 World Youth Cup - a side dubbed the ‘golden generation’ – to retire following Euro 2004 after Rui Costa.
The host nation were beaten in the final of the European championships by Greece.
