Following consultation with members of the Management Committee and Central Competitions Control Committee, the GAA has issued a statement this lunch-time confirming the postponement of Sunday's triple bill of All-Ireland hurling quarter-finals at Croke Park.
The decision was taken at the request of the Kilkenny County Board and as a mark of respect to the late Vanessa McGarry, the wife of Kilkenny senior goalkeeper James McGarry, who was tragically killed in a road traffic accident yesterday.
Vanessa's funeral will take place on Sunday, the original day of the SHC quarter-final between Kilkenny and Galway. GAA President Nickey Brennan and Director General Liam Mulvihill have offered their sympathies, and those of the broader GAA community, to the McGarry and O'Mahoney families on their tragic loss.
The full programme of games scheduled for Sunday will now take place at Croke Park on Saturday week, July 28.
The All-Ireland MHC quarter-final between Antrim and Kilkenny will get underway at 12.15pm, the All-Ireland SHC quarter-final between Wexford and Tipperary will follow at 2pm and the Kilkenny-Galway tie will begin at 4pm.
The GAA have offered the following ticketing advice in relation to the postponed games.
"Patrons who have purchased tickets for this Sunday's games are asked to note that these tickets will be valid for access to the grounds on Saturday week," the statement said.
"The GAA have also confirmed that ticket holders who are unable to attend the rescheduled event will be able to obtain a full refund by returning to the source from where the ticket was originally purchased."
Meanwhile, the Association confirmed that the GAA's McNamee Awards, scheduled to take place on Sunday evening at Croke Park, have also been postponed and will now take place at a later date to be confirmed.
