LGFA President challenge to supporters: Prove ‘that it's not all just talk’

LGFA President Marie Hickey has appealed to supporters of Gaelic games to 'Change the Record' in this Summer's TG4 All Ireland Championship.

Speaking at the launch of the Championship in Croke Park, Hickey said it was time for members to act by attending games more often.

"We need you out there now, we need you supporting our players, we need to increase the profile of our games - that it's not all just talk and that people come out and support the games'.

Last year 31,083 fans showed up at Croke Park to watch a triple bill of junior, intermediate and senior LGFA deciders.

But Hickey wants to go further this year and beat the record attendance of 33,000, set in 2001.

“It’s come to a point now where we need to take it a step forward. The big thing is that we get our membership out supporting the players - who deserve every bit of our support.

“We have over 180,000 members now, so we should have no problem getting a crowd into Croke Park for our final, and into the Championship games that precede that.”
