George Washington could line up in the Emirates Airline Champion Stakes after connections opted to bypass a run at Ascot.

The four-year-old misses tomorrow’s Queen Elizabeth II Stakes with trainer Aidan O’Brien now eyeing the Newmarket feature on October 20 or a trip to America.

“We never said he was a definite runner (at Ascot) and the decision not to run him was basically because we are considering other possible targets for him,” he told the Racing Post.

“The Champion Stakes at Newmarket is one race we will be looking at and there is also the Breeders’ Cup Mile.”
