Police were today investigating a report of a “suspicious device” on board a plane at a major British airport.
Officers from Sussex Police were called to Gatwick Airport in West Sussex at 6.48am this morning following a report of a suspicious device on board an Emirates flight from Dubai.
A Sussex Police spokeswoman said: “The aircraft was safely landed at Gatwick Airport and is currently in a holding area.
“All passengers and crew have been evacuated and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit is currently carrying out extensive searches.”
The airport was temporarily closed as a safety precaution but is now re-open.
She added although some flights may be slightly delayed, there are no major disruptions.
