US soldiers killed in Afghan blast

An explosion has killed and injured an unknown number of American soldiers who were clearing ordnance in Afghanistan today.

The Pentagon said the number of casualties had not yet been determined and that officials were trying to get more information.

CNN said at least three Americans were killed.

’’It was an accident,’’ said Major Ralph Mills, a spokesman at US Central Command.

The explosion took place near the southern Afghan city of Kandahar.
