Superdrug to create 50 jobs in Dublin and Wexford

The UK beauty and health retailer is to open its first three stores in the Republic in Tallaght, the Omni Park in Santry and Wexford town.

The premises are expected to open in late May.

Superdrug is also opening at least 35 new stores in the UK this year as part of its €21m investment programme.

The company added that up to ten stores could be opened in the Republic this year as part of a 2 million euro investment.

The Superdrug stores will sell a wide range of cosmetics and jewellery including J-Lo’s latest fragrance.

The high street retailer successfully lobbied the UK Government to reduce the VAT on condoms.

Alan Johnson, Superdrug’s retail director said: “We’re confident that we can bring customers in the Republic of Ireland their most fashionable beauty & health store.”

Superdrug is the UK’s second-largest health & beauty retail chain and attracted more than seven million customers to its stores during the 2005 Christmas season.

It currently operates over 700 stores in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Superdrug’s owners, the AS Watson group operates over 7,100 retail stores running from health and beauty, luxury perfumeries and cosmetics to food, electronics, fine wine and airport retail arms.

The retail giant has a network of over 7,100 retail stores globally with stores in over 1,800 cities.

AS Watson currently has over 90,000 employees and serves over 25 million customers a week.
