Sam Worthington will star in ‘Dracula: Year Zero’.
The ‘Avatar’ actor has signed on to work on the Alex Proyas’ directed project as the historical figure Prince Vlad of Transylvania, which will begin shooting 2011, according to Encore.
It is the latest in a long line of films the Australian actor is set to work on, making it a busy few years for the star, who has ‘Avatar 2’, ‘Clash of the Titans 2’ and ‘The Last Days of American Crime’ and others in the pipeline.
Producer Mike de Luca has previously confirmed the story for ‘Dracula: Year Zero’ will combine both historical fact and fantasy.
He said: “These writers came up with the ingenious - what I think is ingenious - approach combining historical Dracula with Bram Stoker’s ‘Dracula’.
“I think vampires are endlessly appropriate candidates for reinvention because there’s something in the DNA in that mythology that appeals to every generation. Every generation owns their own version of the vampire myth.”
The movie does not yet have a planned release date.
