The Irish Small and Medium Enterprises Association has said it is not surprised by the findings of the High Court inspectors’ report into illegal practices at National Irish Bank.

Responding to the report today, ISME chief executive Mark Fielding said: “ISME has been calling for root-and-branch investigations into the banking sector. This report today, while damning and showing robbery and illegalities, does not come as a surprise."

Mr Fielding also said the report highlighted a malaise in the banking sector and the “cavalier” attitude that banks have towards their customers.
