Rainbow peaking for Newbury

Michael Jarvis intends to give Rainbow Peak the chance to shine over a longer trip at Newbury on Friday.

Michael Jarvis intends to give Rainbow Peak the chance to shine over a longer trip at Newbury on Friday.

The Peter Savill-owned gelding is one of 14 possible runners for the Dubai Duty Free Arc Trial at the Berkshire venue.

Rainbow Peak landed a monumental gamble in the Wolferton Handicap at Royal Ascot before finishing fast and late to take second in the nine-furlong Strensall Stakes at York.

Jarvis is adamant the well-regarded son of Hernando will be in his element in Friday’s Group Three over a mile and three furlongs.

“He’s an intended runner as long as there is not too much rain, but the forecast looks to be in our favour,” said the Newmarket-based handler.

“We were very satisfied with York against a very good horse (Rio De La Plata) but he wasn’t stopping at the line and looks to be crying out for this longer trip.

“Newbury is the plan and we’re very much looking forward to running him.”

Strensall Stakes third Kings Gambit is also engaged, while Godolphin currently have a three-strong party in Campanologist, Whispering Gallery and Flying Cloud.

Bauer, the 2008 Melbourne Cup runner-up, could make his second start of the term following a protracted absence.

Poet, Dangerous Midge, Halicarnassus, Monitor Closely, Traffic Guard, Saphira’s Fire and Green Moon complete the home challenge.

Irish interest revolves around the Eddie Harty-trained Montbretia, fourth in a Listed Galway heat last time out.
