Minnelli to adopt a child
Entertainer Liza Minnelli and husband David Gest are to adopt a child.
According to the New York Post, the 56-year-old Cabaret star and her producer husband will welcome three-year-old Serena into their family in January.
Minnelli said after her marriage in March that she and Gest, 48, hoped to adopt as soon as possible.
“I’ve wanted children since I was a little girl, but I’ve had five miscarriages,” she said.
“When one has been through a lot and learned something along the way, hopefully the least you can do is to pass it on to an innocent child who need parents because they have lost theirs.”
She told the paper that the adoption process took four months adding: “The situation was somebody who couldn’t provide for her.”
The couple’s new reality television show is to begin airing in the US at the start of November, but they insist the youngster will never appear on it.
