Portadown’s, Adam Carroll is the top Irish qualifier for today’s British Formula 3 Championship race at Silverstone.
Carroll, who missed a number of races after the collapse of Sweeney Racing and their Lola Dome project, will start today’s race from the third row of the grid with 17-year-old Nelson Piquet Junior taking pole position.
Unfortunately, Cork diver Michael Keohane was off the pace and he starts on the eighth row.
In the second qualifier - for tomorrow’s race - Carroll repeated his fifth place position on the grid
with Keohane down in 16th.
Piquet set the fastest time and with all the pole sitters winning the races to date, it will be interesting to see if the Brazilian will keep his rivals at bay.
Cork's Matt Griffin and team mate Patrick Pearse are second of the GT Cup qualifiers.
Meanwhile, in the Seat Cupra qualifiers, Stephen Colbert from Dungannon, lines up on the second row for today’s race with Gavin Smith (Dublin) alongside.
Smith is on the second row for the next race with Colbert on the fourth row and Emmett O’Brien on row
seven.
Having crashed out of yesterday’s Tour of Sperrins Rally won by Trevor Moore, Eugene Donnelly from Co Derry is fit enough for today’s fourth round of the Dunlop National Rally Championship, the Hotel Kilmore Cavan Rally. He will drive his Stan Harper prepared Subaru.
Non-starters for today’s nine stage rally are Patrick Elliott (Subaru WRC) and Glen Allen (WRC).
The top three seeds are Niall Maguire, Michael Barrable and Eugene Donnelly, all in Subaru WRC’s.
