'The X Factor' boss is getting in some early training for when he becomes a father with his pregnant girlfriend Lauren Silverman by taking on the cute pair of pooches, and has appealed to his Twitter followers to come up with names for them.

Posting a picture of himself holding the golden coated pair, he wrote: "Two new arrivals …… Any suggestions for names? (sic)"

Simon said earlier this month he wanted to adopt two pups and he and Lauren were spotted at the Yellow Brick Road Kennels in Los Angeles.

He said ahead of a trip to London: "I am going to get two dogs when I get back. Probably cairn terriers. If any rescue shelters have some who need a home let me know."

Simon, 53, has long been a dog lover and regularly donates money to canine shelters and charities, and is planning on leaving his vast fortune to charity - rather than his son - when he passes away.

He has previously said: "I'm going to leave my money to a charity probably - kids and dogs.

"I don't believe in passing it on from one generation to another.

"Your legacy has to be that hopefully you gave enough people an opportunity so that they could do well and you gave them your time, taught them what you know."
