The Mayo music mogul famously mentored the Girls Aloud singer and her bandmates and he believes the 17-year-old contestant strikes an uncanny resemblance to the brunette star.

Louis - who will also mentor Sam Callahan and Nicholas McDonald - appeared on ITV chat show 'Lorraine' with his three hopefuls from his Boys category this morning, during which he asked host Lorraine Kelly if Luke reminded her of a celebrity.

She replied: "Have you had this before because I thought Kimberley Walsh?"

All of the boys fell about laughing and Louis shouted: "Yes! Yes! It's funny and Kimberley is a really nice girl, absolutely gorgeous girl."

While the pair are no relation, Luke confirmed he attended the same school as Kimberley.

Meanwhile, Louis said he was happy with the decisions he made during the Judges' House stage of the competition last weekend, during which he controversially decided to send Paul Akister home.

He explained: "I think I picked the right three.

"I love Paul but do you know what, I want Paul to come back next year... I really, really do. I think he's amazing, I think he's vocally incredible, world class but he needs to work on everything else and I think next year he'll be incredible."

The 61-year-old judge – who has been on the show since it started in 2004 - also admitted the current series of 'The X Factor' is his favourite ever year on the panel alongside Sharon Osbourne, Nicole Scherzinger and Gary Barlow.

He said: "The four judges get on the best, it's the best it's ever been. We're all friends and we all respect each other so we're not in competition ... I genuinely respect Mrs. O and Gary and Nicole."
