An Australian tourist captured the footage of a lifetime recently when he caught on film the explosive eruption of a volcano in Papua New Guinea.
Phillip McNamara was aboard a sightseeing boat on August 29 when Mount Tavurvur - an active stratovolcano that lies near Rabaul, on the island of New Britain - spectacularly blew it's top.
Watch for the initial explosion, and for the subsequent sonic 'boom' hitting the boat a few seconds later.
"Holy smoking toledos," McNamara is heard saying on the audio track… we have no idea what that means, but it seems apt.
Communities near the volcano were evacuated, after the eruption last Friday week, while residents of the town of Rabaul were advised to remain indoors to avoid falling ash, ABC News reported.
Australia’s Darwin Volcanic Ash Advisory Centre issued an advisory after the eruption while some flights were disrupted due to the ash plume.

The volcano has erupted numerous times in recent years, most recently in 2006. A 1994 eruption destroyed Rabaul.
