Wow.
Swimmers and kayakers were enjoying the sunshine in the cool waters of South Harbour, Cape Clear this morning when they were joined by an unexpected visitor - a giant basking shark that swam among them, unperturbed and unmolested.
What an incredible experience that must have been.
The below video was posted to Facebook by Niamh Ní Drisceoil of the Fastnet Tour Company, who spotted the shark as it swam around, feeding.
Niamh also had time to snap plenty of pictures of the shark as it made its way around the harbour.
Writing on Facebook, she said that it was not harassed by the swimmer and kayakers in any way, but rather swam in among them voluntarily and swam away again.
Harmless plankton feeders, basking sharks are a common sight around our shores at this time of the year, and especially in fine, settled conditions such as we have been enjoying.
The latest footage follows an awesome drone video of a shark shot in Cork Harbour at the end of May.
