VIDEO: Donegal woman with Down Syndrome lives out actress dream in epic birthday surprise

Meet Claire Doherty from Kilmacrennan in Co Donegal, who's had the dream of being an actress all her life.

Her brother Paul, who’s a wedding photographer, decided to make Claire’s dream come true and play the video at her 21st birthday celebrations.

Claire and Paul came up with an excellent concept for the video, which sees her birthday cake get stolen and follows Claire’s James Bond style efforts to retrieve it. The short film also features some local Donegal celebrities like All-Ireland winner Michael Murphy and Highland Radio DJ Gary Gamble - who plays a very convincing Daniel O’Donnell.

We think it’s fantastic effort and it’s very hard not to raise a smile at Claire's performance, along with the rest of her co-stars - including her good pals Matthew and Molly.

The guys shot the majority of the video at the Silver Tassie Hotel, Letterkenny and Paul told breakingnews.ie that not only did Claire love every second of it, their ‘Daniel O’Donnell’ also came in for some very special attention.

“Gary Gamble was walking around the hotel dressed as Daniel and he had a few people come up asking for a picture as they thought he was the real Daniel,” said Paul.

The doting brother also informs us that Claire has a great love of action movies and has always wanted to “fly to Hollwood” to become an actress.

Paul enlisted the help of friends Denis Ferry and Jamie Gibbs to produce the video and added: “We had a small team trying to make this film idea come to life for Claire!”

“We showed it at her party on Friday night in The Lagoon, Termon and it got a great reception. Everyone was asking to see it again, so we thought we'd pop it on YouTube to show the world how talented Claire is!”

Claire certainly is a talent and Paul was kind enough to send us on a picture of how wonderful his sister looked on her special day.

This is not the first time we have heard from this creative family. Paul’s other sister Gráinne Corry stared in a brilliant wedding

After watching her video we definitely think Claire has a future in front of the camera, although the video does really make us want some cake!

Well done to all involved!

Hat Tip: Thanks to Paul Doherty Photography for sending the video our way.
