UCC students deliver powerful message on the stigma surrounding rape

UCC Students' Union have put together a video with the aim of tackling the taboo surrounding the crime of rape.

The Union hopes the video will improve what it calls the “hush-hush” nature of speaking about rape and have launched their Break The Silence campaign to do just that.

“Our campaign seeks to get rid of the shaming culture in Ireland, in which victims of rape do not feel comfortable to tell someone what has happened to them,” said the UCC Students' Union.

The video comes after a report in the Irish Examiner last Friday revealed that about one in seven UCC students have said they are victims of rape or a serious sexual assault.
