Cadbury's Roses are shrinking once again, as the corporate giant which owns Cadbury's is cutting more than 50g from the bumper tin.
They've ruined Christmas.
Mondelez, the owner of the country's favourite chocolate brand, confirmed to the Grocer trade magazine that the tin of Roses - a staple of Irish Christmas treats - is shrinking from 780g to less than 730g.
In 2011, it was a hefty 975g. The company is also cutting the size of the Miniature heroes box from 780g to 695g. And it's very unlikely the price will drop with the weight.
"We are under pressure to ensure tubs are great value," a company spokesman told the Grocer.. "We are convinced the changes we have made to the mix of chocolates ensures they remain so."
Those changes to the mix are, he says, an Almond Caramel Bite being added to the Roses tin, and the addition of a mini Wispa bar to Heroes.
The changes are unlikely to keep punters happy, however, as the recent reduction of Crème Eggs from six to five in a pack, and the uproar over the butchering of the pink snack in 2011, show that consumers care about their chocolate.
