The latest Simpsons couch gag was... bizarre

Over the weekend, the first episode of the 26th(!) series of The Simpsons aired. Entitled 'Clown in the Dumps', it was a highly publicised episode as there had been rumours an important character was going to be killed off.

In the end, (although a character did die) the surreal couch gag that ran as usual before the episode turned out to be much more of a talking point .

The long clip was a surreal imagining by Oscar-nominated independent animator Don Hertzfeldt of what The Simpsons might look like in its 800th series.

It's weird.

And you never know, the beloved cartoon might actually reach its 800th season - it shows no sign of stopping despite long-running claims that it's just not as good as it used to be.
