Would you be surprised to learn otters traverse inner city streams on their way to and from the sea? Us too.
Well just take a look at this video caught by local man Chris Moody of an otter having a moonlit jaunt in Blackpool, Cork City.
You can learn a heck of a lot more about these cute creatures’ habits, and even take part in a study to track city otters’ movements, in Cork next weekend.
Cork Nature Network is looking for volunteers who can spare a couple of hours each morning next Friday, Saturday and Sunday (Oct 28, 29, 30) to look for evidence of otters on the River Bride, which runs through Blackpool.
All you need are wellies and wet gear. Also, your smartphone to record pictures of otter poo (‘spraint’) and other clues.

Cork Nature Network is a local organisation that promotes the conservation and protection of wildlife species and natural habitats in Cork.
It was established in 2015 by a group of 11 wildlife enthusiasts to spread the word on the importance of wildlife.
It regularly runs public and children’s events throughout the year and manages a number of projects including Beaumont Quarry, Cork Otter Project, Invasive Species and Buzzards of Newmarket.
Throughout the year Cork Nature Network have organised free public talks on wolves, ladybirds, coastal plants, woodland and many more.
The organisation believe in involving children in conservation and last year were involved in putting up bird and bat boxes. They have an active facebook and twitter page and run a free email list to inform of local events and projects.
