Four things to do on National Potato Day

Tattoos? Guns? Stamps? Dance?

Nine-month-old Grace Walsh from Lispopple, Swords, on top of her spuds basket at the Barretstown Camp after K & K, a local Dublin potato packing company, handed over a cheque to the camp of part of the €1,655.00 made from sales of special branded packs of their ‘Picked Fresh’ and ‘Kennedy’ potatoes. Obviously to the little one above, spuds won't mean much yet, but in honour of National Potato Day, we thought we'd look at some more unconventional ideas for the humble spud.

1. Spud guns

Aah, remember the days when as a child ye used to 'kill' your mates in battle with your spud gun?

They were nothing like this.

2. Potato stamps

Those long summer days. Nothing to do. Then your ma gets ye to do some potato stamps.

She'd show ye how it's done, like this...

And then you'd get to work, so your fridge would end up something like this...

3. Potato tattoo

This one definitely ain't for the kids.

Show off your patriotic vigour by getting a spud tattoo.

4. Potato dance

Charlie Chaplin may have done it first, but we prefer Grandpa Simpson's version.

So how will you celebrate?

And what's your favourite type of spud? Boiled, mashed, roast, chips?
